I know it’s been a while since our last #HerHustle post, but we are back and we still have women making a difference in their worlds.
Today, we’ll be meeting the lady behind Hairffiliation, a brand that makes AFFORDABLE natural hair and beauty products. Where all my alaroros at?
I have used a number of her products and I can tell you, she’s the real deal. Remember, there is a third part to this blog’s existence: Earning! Yes, the money we save and spend must come from somewhere. In this new series, we will be focusing on women (and men) who hustle and their stories. I believe that there’s a word for someone who has a desire to begin a hustle – learn from those who have gone ahead of you in this hustle game. This money must be made!
Let’s learn from JJ the story behind her brand:
Hello, what’s your name? Introduce your hustle
My name is Jennifer Patrick. I am the CEO of Hairffiliation Beauty Services. I started making hair as a hustle in January, 2016 and I started being serious with the products making in May, 2016.
Is it a full-time hustle?
I was supposed to be a side hustle but it has become a full time hustle.
What does Hairffiliation mean?
Hairffiliation was coined from the words ‘hair’ and ‘affiliation’, because I wanted to merge beauty with every strand of hair. Lol.
I like that! What’s the story behind Hairffiliation?
I started out by being a mobile hair maker and making hair from my house. I started making hair because I was pretty broke. The products making part of hairffiliation started after I went to a salon and paid a lot of money only to go home and regret it. I had also spent so much money on the maintenance of my natural hair and it was getting frustrating for a jobless person like me. I decided to start making my own organic products for my hair as well as making my own hair to save money. I decided to do more research about using organic products for my hair. I had already been using the African black soap for a really long time and I learnt the formulation from my mom. Every product that I hand make are tested on my hair or skin first before getting other willing people to test them. I decided to start selling my products because I realized that having a healthy hair and skin shouldn’t be a good reason to break the bank. Especially for the naturalistas. I recently launched my website where I sell my own products as well as other products at the cheapest prices ever! I am am alaroro myself so getting the best deals for what I buy is really important to me and I have extended that opportunity to everyone that is interested. I also make Tees with witty inscriptions about natural hair.
What are your goals for Hairffiliation?
I hope to be a recognized brand worldwide. Recognized for selling products at unbeatable amounts.
Do you have a mentor?
Nah, no mentor. If I really had to mention a name, it’d be my mother, though.
Any advice for someone who wants to get in to the hustle life?
Man, the hustle is real and tougher than it looks. I honestly wasn’t business savvy but look at me now. Lol. Really though, if I can do it, anyone can too with patience and determination.
I am totally tapping into your drive. Bonus question for the readers, are you an Alaroro or a Shopaholic?
I think I am nicely ensconced in the middle. But I am tilting towards the alaroro side of life.
