Harmattan is Here! Protect Yourself!

Hello Everyone,

Compliments of the season to you and you and you. What did you get up to this Christmas? I did not attend any carol service per se, but I went to church on Christmas Day and we sang carols.

On the 26th of December, I woke up and the world was freezing and dusty and hella dry and it hit me… the Harmattan we thought was hit by the recession was here. Oh, this was also the day of my introduction, so Congratulations to me and mine! A huge komkom of thanks to our family for showing up and supporting us.

Okay. So, back to today’s discussion. The regular characteristics of this season –  dry lips, injuries that hurt like hell and do not heal (fam), here’s a list of things you can do to help out this season!

Tips for Surviving The Harmattan

  • Drink Water – You should be drinking at least 6 pure water sachets a day. Least o. If you have a big 2 litre jug, fill it up and keep it where you can see it. Challenge yourself to drink up to 3 litres of water a day, you can do it! Click the image to read | 6 Reasons To Drink More Water

Harmattan In Nigeria - How To Protect Yourself

  • Eat Water – For some people, drinking water can be stressful in the beginning. That’s fine and normal, but you do need water. So, what is the alternative? Eat water. Do you know the foods that have high water content? Watermelon (Obvs) – Cucumber – Tomatoes –  Apples – Pineapples – Baby Carrots. You can eat your water and have it! Fruits for Harmattan in Nigeria

  • VitaminUp! Particularly Vitamin C – You need to boost your immunity, fam! This weather does not play – sharing the flu like party pack and you don’t want that party pack. You gotta reject it. Back to sender. A lot of the fruits above have Vitamin C, but you can prep your eggs with a lot of Tatashe and Green Pepper to get that boost. Dark leafy greens also have vitamin C, so get your vegetable smoothies and soups on!
  • Move More – It feels like my bones are dying just sitting at work or just being cuddled up in bed. You need to move it move it! Walk more. Use the stairs. Stretch! Stretch!! Stretch!!! Click King Julien to get a list of stretches you can do at your desk!Harmattan In Nigeria - How To Protect Yourself

  • MOISTURISE  – No matter who you are, you need to rub oil on your body fam. I mean, you don’t want to go around looking like this guy…Harmattan in Nigeria Moisturisers to get you through this trying time include: Coconut Oil, Hairfilliation Ori-Coco Whipped Body Butter and Abebi Organics Palm Kernel Body Mix. Right now, my end-of-day routine includes wiping my makeup off with Baby Wipes and Coconut Oil and washing my face with Black Soap. After my bath, I do not dry my body o. That’s when I slather my whole body with Coconut Oil. Head – To – Toe. Fam. Coconut Oil is THE best. Closely followed by Shea Butter. Rub everywhere. Mrs. O says you should wear socks after oiling your feet (you can also use vaseline) to protect your heels from cracking. After your bath in the morning, moisturise! When you wash your hands at work, moisturise. For my hair, I have a mix of Glycerin + Water + Coconut Oil that gives my hair the moisture it needs!  Moisturise your lips too!  You can moisturise your lips with Shea butter and coconut oil, or just purchase a handy lip balm like this:
    ilham-skincare-lip-balm
This Ilham Skincare Lip Balm right here is helping my lips! It was in my goody bag from the 1st TheBloggerPoint event.

You need to protect yourself. Take care of your insides, your skin, your hair. You can still look flawless in the Harmattan season.  Just make sure you are well oiled and the weather will do the rest!

25 Christmas Movies You Must See

December 25, 2016

Ho Ho Ho!

Merry Christmas everybody. Except those of you who are on holiday from work between Wednesday and Friday next week, get your Merry Christmas somewhere else! Hmph!

Merry Christmas from The Alaroro Shopaholic

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but it is easy to forget or deny… The cost of giving gifts, the absence of loved ones, the Nigerian economic situations, sad memories, e.t.c

A good way to really get into the Christmas is to GIVE! Yes! Give of your time, your money and other treasures.

My favourite thing to do during the Christmas break is to binge on movies. Turn off the lights. AC on high. Just watch movies. This year, I started a little early because I discovered a whole new world of Hallmark Christmas movies on YouTube.

Anyway, here’s a list of 25 Christmas movies you must watch.

christmas-movies-you-must-see

    1. Home Alone 3 – Enough of Macaulay Culkin for a minute and meet this kid who got a Christmas present and kasala wants to burst because these terrorists picked the wrong toy. Roger Ebert thought this was refreshing and I totally agree with him.
      • Home Alone 1 and 2 – Because, if you’re alone this Christmas you need to spend some time with Macaulay Culkin!
    2. Miracle On 34th Street – Kris Kringle and Matilda-girl. Kris is trying to make Doris’ belief in Santa Claus but make her young daughter’s wishes come true, all while trying to prove his identity in a court of law.
    3. How The Grinch Stole Christmas – A bitter Grinch  who comes to the realization that Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more” than just presents and feasting.
    4. Finding Father Christmas – Miranda wants to know who her dad is. Ian is helping her out. A + B means this is her dad. She is falling in love with Ian. Will she tell the truth or leave?
    5. A Wish For Christmas – Don’t limit yourself. Don’t let anyone take advantage of you at work. Watch Santa help Sara Shaw prove herself and take her place in 48 hours or less!
    6. Gremlins – “Don’t expose him to bright light. Don’t ever get him wet. And don’t ever, ever feed him after midnight.” – Remember those lines? – People that do not listen to instructions deserve whatever they get.
    7. Love Actually – Every awkward love story you have ever heard of is brought together in this film.
    8. Jingle All The Way – Small gift o. Ordinaray gift o. Two grown men want to beat each other. This is why you should always prep for Christmas way ahead of time.
    9. An Arthur Christmas – How does Santa deliver all those presents in one night? Appaz, Santa is a high-tech guy! Watch this movie and follow Arthur on his journey to save Christmas.
    10. Elf – Buddy was accidentally taken to the North Pole as a kid and was raised by Santa’s elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results
    11. Last Holiday – Queen Latifah liquidates her assets and goes on a holiday of a lifetime because she’s been told that she has a few weeks to live. Side Note: I want to live life to the fullest like that. Everyday.
    12. A Christmas Kiss (YouTube) – Why would you kiss a stranger in an elevator because Mistletoe? Oyinbo people do the most and then fall in love. Hmph. He is however her billionaire boss’s brothers… Well, her billionaire boss too.
    13. A Royal Christmas (YouTube): Would you forgive and believe that a Prince was not just slumming when he lied about his identity for over A YEAR? Watch her forgive and go with him to meet his mom –  who hates her btw.
    14. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe – Yes ASLAN! For all the right reasons and more. CS Lewis
    15. The Nightmare Before Christmas– One of the coolest animated musicals ever.
    16. Miracle on 34th Street (The Oldie) – Kris Kringle all over again, but this time the original tearjerker.
    17. Serendipity – This woman refused to let the magic of Christmas blind her to believing in love at first sight. Smart Woman. However, stupid way of exchanging numbers *rme*
    18. A Very Murray Christmas
    19. My Christmas Love – Who does not want anonymous 12 days of Christmas gifts? This lovelorn sister is trying to find out who might be sending her gifts and if he is worth building a future with.
    20. Christmas Cookies (Hallmark) – This babe was sent by her company to go and buy out a small-town Cookie factory owned by a woman who died and handed it over to her nephew. Nephew guy can’t afford to manage the costs, so he has to sell.
    21. Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas – Ayeeee. We are back at the enchanted castle to meet the crazzzzzzy Grand Piano guy who is trying to ruin Christmas. Belle must have her way and Angelique is the cutest thing everrrrrr. One of my fav Christmas songs ever is in this movie…“As long as there’s Christmas, I truly believe that hope is the greatest of the gifts we’ll receive”
    22. Polar Express: Swear Silverbird Cinemas ran this ad forever! A young boy goes on a Magical train ride that will change his life.
    23. The Muppet Christmas Carol – Awon Kermit fans. This is a beautiful movie that you will absolutely enjoy. Not every time Inner Kermit.
    24. The Perfect Git – Because, what is Christmas without Jesus?

25. The Nativity Story – What is Christmas without a willing young woman and a forgiving Carpenter?

#LagosWaka: Luxury Beauty Brunch 5

December 13, 2016

Hey guys,

Long time, no blogpost.

I pulled my head out of the waters to update you on what’s been going on!

On the 3rd of December, I attended the Luxury Beauty Brunch hosted by Tayo Afolabi of World PR Media at the Mystiquee Perfumery in Lekki 1.

Isn’t she gorgeous?! CEO World PR Media, Tayo Afolabi

I was late (as usual!), but it did not stop me from enjoying the few minutes I spent there. I arrived just in time to listen to Temitope Omai, Vienne Odofin Daniel and Solange Boccovi speak. 3 out of 5 is good, right? Yay me!

I was tempted to swing from this chandelier. So beautiful.

Temitope Omai, the founder of Mystique Bespoke Perfumery, introduced us to the world of scents. Quick quiz, how many types and categories of fragrances do we have? Do a quick study and improve your perfume buying skills!

Temitope Omai teaching us about The Art of Perfumery. Do you know she actually went to school to learn this? Career Opportunity!

Vienne Odofin Daniel talked to us about the importance of strategy for Fragrance brands. The one key thing I learned? Guerlain is NOT pronounced ‘gwehlein’. Imagine that?! Do you know the correct pronunciation? Also, learn to say NO. Sometimes, it takes boldness to create campaigns like BOSS, the Scent for Her.

Brand Manager of Ghandour Cosmetics, Solange Boccovi introduced the “Scent of Africa” perfume and even gave us the opportunity to experience 5 of the raw materials that made up the beautiful scent. She further went on to describe the perfume as a blend of sophistication and elegance that pays homage to Africa and celebrates the rich identity of the African Woman. Discovered something called Ylang Ylang here… coolest!

I had a great great great time! and I can’t wait for the next Luxury Beauty Brunch.

Cheers, Viv!
