So you want to give gifts, but you’re
broke or not that buoyant or rich In Jesus Name!
*sigh* Did anyone imagine that this year would get this bad? Well, when men say there’s a casting down, we will say there’s a lifting up! Right? Right???
Anyway, I believe gift giving is an art and everyone has the opportunity to be an artist. There is nothing more horrible than giving a thoughtless gift. Case in point: Office Secret Santa. Maaaan. What is the worst office Secret Santa gift you have ever seen/received?
Anyway, this is me helping you(r wallet) this Christmas…
1. For the Writer/Idea Generator:
I love to start the new year with one or two new notebooks for the key areas of my life and for less than 1k. You can get pretty leather bound journals or notebooks at Laterna Bookstores from N400! Click this link: https://www.laternabooks.com/index3.php?s=204.
Add a pen.
Write a special message/prayer on the first page of the journal and you’re good to go!
Total Cost: NGN 500 (minimum)!
2. For The Reader
I love to read. Any and Every Thing. Buy me a book and I will love you forever (kisses to WendyWoulker and Mrs. O for taking my wishlist serious ).
With NGN 1000, you can get a good mix of pre-loved books! Early on Saturday Mornings, you can walk the Oyignbo stretch and find books for sale. Check CMS, Ojuelegba Underbridge. Pick the neatest and prettiest and tie the books up with a ribbon.
Don’t forget to add a thoughtful note.
3. For The Homeowner
You know that friend that lives alone and loves decorating her space? You can get her thrifted magazines!!! There’s this guy at Ojuelegba Under Bridge. You can also check CMS Under Bridge as well. Trust me, you can get magazines for as low as N250 each. 4 for NGN 1000? Totally worth it!
Another gift idea for the home owner? Those extremely bright throw pillows sold in traffic. Buy two bright colours that complement the receiver’s home colour scheme! I bought my bright pink pillow for N500.
4. For The Workaholic/Student/Anyone
Buy a picture frame and print an encouraging message for 2017. You can also print lovey-dovey words for your beloved too. I made this message on Canva. You can do it too. Insert this message into the frame and box it up. Click this link to get a photo frame for NGN 700.
5. For the one who needs a new hobby in 2017
Like Me? I need something calming and manual to help me unwind in 2017. Put together a box of knitting basics (pins and wool) and send YouTube links on how to knit.
Definitely less than NGN1000
6. For the Tea Lover whose name starts with E, S or M.
Or you can buy M & E and attach a note “because you are My Everything” *score*
Click the image to buy from the Nik Nak Store!
One letter mug costs N500!
7. For the Onijekuje (Lover/Friend)
Make a sweet-themed basket. How? Buy microwaveable popcorn. A random selection of chocolates, Sweets, Gum. e.t.c. Include a note that says: “let’s watch a corny Christmas movie together”. Trust me, YouTube has an amazing collection of Corny Christmas movies. I can boldly say YouTube because someone has an NTel Data Plan. Risk: Individual may fall asleep during corny Christmas movie. Depending on who it is, it may be totally worth it. Remember to arrange everything in a paper-plate and tie it up!
8. For the Beauty Lover (DISCOUNT CARDS FOR NECTAR BEAUTY HUB)
I have 20% and 10% discount cards that can be used to shop in-store at Nectar Beauty Hub – 5, Layi Yusuf Crescent, Off, Admiralty Way, Lekki. You can Use this discount card to purchase beauty related items for someone. They even have ready made Pamper Me hampers for Sisis, Gentlemen and even Kids! 9. For the friend who is always stressed?
A colouring book and crayons! Let’s see if his/her colouring skills have improved over the years!!!
So, do you still think you can’t give someone a great gift this Christmas? It does not have to be expensive to be great. It has to be well thought out. Know the receiver and buy your gifts accordingly. If you can afford more, go ahead and buy more. I mean, you can buy everything on this list and make a lovely hamper for someone like me! *hint hint*
Here’s to an affordable Christmas!!!
