How’s it going? Really really, how’s it going?
This is one of those posts that come from deep feelings and questions about life.
Do you ever wake up and ask yourself questions like “why am I here?” “why do I go to work everyday?” “how do I know that this is for me?” “Is this my path?” “Wait, WTAF am I doing?”. First, I want to let you know that you are not alone *cue Michael Jackson*. No, seriously, you are not alone. Secondly, finding yourself is a process – many of us are winging it and even those who have discovered purpose will wake up on some mornings and question everything. Finally, it is okay to ask questions.
My name is Vivian AF and I want to talk to you today about worrying.
What does it mean to worry? to feel or cause to feel anxious or troubled about actual or potential problems. There are some days I feel like I do not belong – at a job I’ve been told I do so well. I see other people “representing” their careers on Social Media and I’m overwhelmed like… are you sure you are in the right place? There are other days when the feedback I get is so damning that I shrivel up real quick. The worst days? The days I say I am not good enough – through my actions, thoughts e.t.c
Well, if you feel this way with work, school, pet projects, business… I have good news for you. You can overcome the darkness.
Identify the root cause
Ask yourself questions until you can find root causes without laying blame. This happened and this happened and because of that, this is where I am. When you get here and you are sure and certain that you have been honest with yourself, we move to the next phase.
Focus on what you can control!
That is right. There are things you can control and there are things you can’t. You may attempt to manipulate people or other situations that are out of your control and these things backfire. So, guess what we are going to do: Focus. Focus on what? Your words, Your thoughts, Your decisions. TBH, you can’t control anyone else. What you let in, what you let out and most importantly, what you let stay in.
What are you listening to?
There are some worship songs I can’t listen to when I am overwhelmed. My empathy levels are really high, so I have to be careful about what I let in sometimes. Have you ever listened to a song or read a sad story and you just start wailing on the person’s behalf? Well, I learned a while ago that this was not for me.
It sounds so tedious, yeah? It really isn’t. There are so many free tools to get you started on your meditation journey. The best option for me is the Bible. The YouVersion Bible App allows you to “listen” to the bible as you go about your day. If you are not open to that, just set aside time to reflect on the word of God – a verse a day. Ultimately, empty your mind of the worries of this world and fill it with the word of God. You can also try a meditation app – One that we (HG and I) have tried and tested: Headspace. There is a free 10 day trial when you sign up, so enjoy that one.
You can also meditate on your work. Surprised? I hope not! Create a focused environment and think deeply on the frameworks and tools that you use, applying them to various situations. Allow the doors of your mind to be open and don’t be that one at the table saying “THIS IS HOW WE DO THINGS HERE”. Pfft.
What are you saying?
It’s easy to fall into the trap of confessing negatively and this not about being Christian. This is a general problem that people find themselves in – creating negative realities with words. You need to be mindful of what you say because words are powerful – texts and images included in this category. Protect yourself at all costs. Protect your heart. Protect your soul. What should you say?
Solution: Positive Affirmations
The Word of God is filled to the brim with positive affirmations even from God – I am. Do you know how powerful those words are? One of my favourite humans on Instagram, Alex Elle, writes out affirmations and paper and encourages to speak our truth. Take a stand for yourself. I am successful. I am able. I have the strength to will and to do. I am creative. Scream it. Shout it. Whisper it with the strength of a thousand women. Tweet it. Let it be known that you know who you are and you live in that fullness.
What are you doing?
If after finding out the whys, you realise that you need to step up your game – DO IT. Honestly, your destiny is in your actions. I believe this with all of my heart. What someone did or didn’t do can only affect me so much. I still have the power. Don’t continue with the complaints and the whining. Take one step at a time.
Money Matters? Read This. Work Matters? Learn Something New. Ask Questions. Find those who have found the path to success. Check yourself regularly. Go to the doctor. Have an extra glass of water. Eat an extra serving of vegetables. Count your breaths. Write the first line. Record using your phone. Edit. Upload (self-sub, lol). Go on leave. Rest.
Solution: Take Action
This post may seem odd, but I really hope it doesn’t. I am a daughter of encouragement and I hope that every post that you read on this blog encourages you to take action to be your better self and to live your best life.
Love and Light always,
