Hello People!

#InHerWardrobe has missed you guys, have you missed #InHerWardrobe? If you don’t know what InHerWardrobe is, check here and here.

Well, we’re back and we are back in styleeeee (literally) featuring the awesome Deola Adebiyi. Deola is a content creator and all-round Media Girl. She is the Editor of OmogeMura (like, fine girl dress up! I love it) and I am excited to have her on the blog! So guys, sit back and let’s meet Deola

In Her Wardrobe(1)

My name is Deola Adebiyi and I am the editor of OmogeMuRa, a fashion and beauty blog based in Lagos, Nigeria.

My style is kind of all over the place. I’m a chameleon when it comes to style. Sometimes my style is goth, sometimes its girly, some days are casual, and some days I don’t care. My best friend describes my style as ‘Edgy punk girl with a hint of African flavour’!

As usual, we will be taking a walk into Deola’s wardrobe to find the following items:

The Necessity:

A black silk shirt. I have had this particular shirt for about 4 years and it makes me so very happy. I can dress it up for an event, dress it down for work; it works so well for everything.

Currently Cool:

I have a sheer jacket that kinda follows the cape/jacket trend. I think. loool.

Definitely You:

I have a pair of Jeffrey Campbell boots that define my style. Very punk rock and unique.

Key Accessory:

Sunglasses! I can’t do without a fab pair of sunnies…

Random… I love love the pictures from this swimsuit shoot!

Key Shoes:

Black court shoes. They make your outfit go from drab to fab!

There you have it, guys! Deola’s style is edgy chic and we are lovin’ it. I want those Jeffrey Campbell boots tho’… I think I cam stomp someone out with those. *giggle*

So, what do you like about Deola’s style? Tell us! Which of the above items can we find in your wardrobe?

You can connect with Deola via her Instagram, Twitter and you should totally subscribe to her website for fresh beauty, fashion and style content in Lagos, Nigeria. Don’t forget to subscribe to her YouTube channel.

Thank you, Deola for featuring  on TheAlaroro!

Cheers,

#DupeThat: Episode 1 – Work-Style Accessories

February 17, 2016
The Alaroro
10 Comments

Hello guys,

How is it going?

Welcome to the first episode of The Alaroro’s Dupe That!

Dupe that

Today, I am legit lusting after work-style accessories that I honestly cannot afford at the moment. I mean, have you seen the exchange rate? There are some things I can save towards, others… Not worth it abeg! Affordable dupes might just be it for me.

  • Sunglasses: Dior So Real – Hello Mon Dioooor! I love the shape of these frames. They look so good. Especially this Silver Mirrored pair… Again, Oh Mon Dior. I mean – the beauty of buying from the Dior online shop is the ability to build your own pair of Sunnies – Lenses, Eyebrows, Metal, Temples, Nosepads and your own Engraving? All for £465/$595. Tags like this just make me think of Rent! So, if I put this towards my rent noooowwwww… ehen. Well, you can kukuma spend £465 or N2000… Depending on the swag level of ya pocket.

The Alaroro in me recommends the Haute Signatures Desire Inspired Vintage Sunglasses for N2000.

DiorSoReal1SOREAL_B0YMD_V5

  • Briefcase – See, this is one accessory I am working towards building into my wardrobe. A cute briefcase that can take an 11” laptop and the unnecessary jagajaga that I pack in my bag every day. I mean, do you ever experience this – the one day you decide to empty out your bag and drop one or two things, is the day you discover how much you NEED the one or two things. Ugh. Anyway, I have my eye on this Lodis ‘Medium Jamie’ Leather Briefcase and/or this Dior Bleu Outre-Mer Leather Briefcase. The Lodis is about $300 – this should NOT be an issue, however, every cent/kobo counts in this season.

lodis-camel-medium-jamie-leather-briefcase-beige-product-0-112615312-normal 1DSBR037TAB_H506_V0_Z

The Alaroro: If I was willing to semi-splurge, I might just go for this simple looking briefcase. It retails for N20,000. Or, maybe I should just enter Yaba market and go a-hustling for a clean looking briefcase. I’m leaning towards the latter.

Men-Real-Genuine-Leather-Briefcase---Blue-3711783

  • Fancy Phone Case – No, don’t ask me too many questions about why my phone looks like Godzilla stepped on it… *sigh* I will do better. As much as I like to believe my style is muted – relaxed, I believe that Phone Cases are a hugeee necessity. I want the Lumee phone case. Wait, don’t I need an iPhone for that?! Case Notes has a wide variety of Phone Cases that can suit your budget. Check them out here and here.

A photo posted by Ademisola_b@yahoo.com (@case_notes_) on Feb 16, 2016 at 6:39am PST

  • Lipstick – Yes, lipstick is an accessory. On the days I do not wear lipstick, I look like a teenager. I am tall and all, but I still look young neooow. Do I really need expensive lipstick? Currently, MAC is expensive. In fact, I want to splurge and just buy the Ruby Woo ehn… I just can’t. Not right now. One day, I will talk about repaying debt and managing finances. However, if I am not spending N5,000 to N8,000 on a lipstick, what am I buying? I am patiently waiting for the CoverallsandLipstick blog sale… Before then, you can check out this Milani lipstick or this Wet ‘n’ Wild one. Of which, one store is still selling the Ruby Woo at 4k… Hmmm._11803367 Colour-Statement-Lipstick---Red-Label-3913071 Mega-Last-Matte-Lipstick---Color-911D---Stoplight-Red-1924635_1

That’s all, folks!

Earn More! Save and Invest money! Spend Less!

Cheers,

#LoveDay: Love is

February 14, 2016

Hello guys,

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I had what I wanted to post today, I mean it’s love Sunday… The very tenets of love that I hold dear are found in 1 Corinthians 13. So, I was going to share my everyday interpretation of that scripture…

Then, I went to church…

I am so sure that when the MOG was preaching today, he was talking about Faith. Maybe it was the Valentine in the air that made me receive Love. Not sure, but there were a couple of scriptures that Pst. Poju O shared today that resonated with my belief about Love and I’m going to share them with us.

Love is...(2)

Turn with me to the 2nd book of Corinthians, the 8th Chapter. In this Chapter, Paul is talking about giving but I caught one kain sweet Rhema today that gave me a clear understanding of what love is. This is The Message (MSG) translation from verse 11:

Once the commitment is clear, you do what you can, not what you can’t.
The heart regulates the hands.

This isn’t so others can take it easy
while you sweat it out. No, you’re shoulder to shoulder with them all
the way, your surplus matching their deficit, their surplus matching
your deficit. In the end you come out even.

As it is written,

Nothing left over to the one with the most,
Nothing lacking to the one with the least.

So, this is what love looks like. Partnership. The melding of gifts to minister to God, one another and others. It is work, yes. Fulfilling work. I think my favourite part of this scripture is:

your surplus matching their deficit, their surplus matching your deficit.

I have re-read this scripture a number of times today and my take on love, where there is a clear commitment, has changed. I want to explain it but I am not yet sure how I should. I really want you to read and re-read this scripture and share your interpretation with me.

I have a question. I’d really love it if we could share our answers in the comments section below.

  • Is this commitment only recognised as marriage? Isn’t Courtship/Relationship, whatever ship you call it, the presence of a commitment?

The Alaroro's Guide to Dining In

Hallo Guys,

Yesterday, we talked about what we earning-saving-investing-spending folk can do

So, let’s say we’ve been too busy to eat in, and our days have been made of Cold Rice and Beans from Chicken Republic… It’s Valentine’s Day… Let’s do something different.

Yay GIF from Giphy.com

Have Dinner with Me

Venue: Our/My Sitting Room Floor

Time: 5pm

Dress Code: Edible

So, your special Val’s day plan is to dine in? Here are my tips:

  • Appearance (Theme x Setting) – So, you think because we are sitting in the house you will make Eba and Okro and pack it all inside one plate?! Your suit is squeezed! You gotta pull out all the stops.
    • Pretty Dishes,
    • Shiny Cutlery,
    • Place Mats (Yes, even if you are sitting on the floor!),
    • Pretty glasses,
    • Flower arrangement – This is what they taught us in Home Econs
    • A scented candle (ensure that the scent will not clash with that of your meal and make your partner puke all over the awesome meal you prepared).
romantic dinner at home
image: hercampus.com

If you don’t know how to set a table/floor/bed, let Aunty Martha teach you.

  • The Actual Meal
    • Plan your meal – Is this meal going to be a 3 Course? Yes or No? If you are not the predominant chef in the relationship and you are trying to make this special, do your research. Can you make everything you want to? Can you afford everything? What can you afford? A kilo of chicken is now N750 I think this is a pre-Lent hike so, I am sure it should drop soon. For recipe ideas, check out KitchenButterfly, Dooney’s Kitchen, 9jaFoodie, Kezia Eniang, Fine Dining Lovers and Food Network. In fact, we should challenge @CapoeiraPanda to do 3 Course Healthy Meal plan idea, ay?
    • Merge desires – If your lover is fitfam, why are you cooking fat-enhancing foods? Ensure that whatever you serve can make your partner feel special enough not to hate you tomorrow. 😀
    • Drinks – Are you serving wine? Why? Does your partner like wine? What kind? If it is Zobo your partner likes, you can buy o. Wait, who knows where they sell good zobo, link me up! Or, fruit juice = N250.
    • Dessert – apart from each other, there are other delicious things you can consume as dessert. Be creative, try Peanut Brittle or Coconut Brittle. Or, just buy ice cream. Or, make ice cream. Or, be ice cream. LIVE.
  • Be Calm – Yes, I know you’ve worked your butt off and you’re worried that something might go wrong… I mean, what if one of the candles should tip ov… SORRY. It’s time. Your partner is here. Just relax. Oh, you can blindfold them at the door though. Added kinikankinkangbishgboshgbash to your whole razmattaz…
  • As for you, the invited, oo je wa respectful. Appreciate the work that has been put in. Speak praise at every point in time. Wow is praise enough. Call him/her the… Funny-memes-worlds-greatest-chef
  • Clean Up – I mean, if someone cooked for you the least you can do is clean up. So, you guys can clean up together… If your kitchen is small, you can switch.  Or, you can have more important things to do than dishes and end up waking up on Monday morning with your house smelling like a dump. 😀

Whatever you do, just have fun.

<3

#LoveDay: The Alaroro’s Guide to Dining Out

February 8, 2016
The Alaroro
5 Comments

Hello Everyone,

It is still the month of love.

We are getting closer to V-Day and the pressure seems to be mounting. If you are like me, then you are probably searching for the most affordable way to give your SO an amazing Valentine! If you missed Valerie’s post on gifting according to Love Languages, you should check it out here!

If your lover’s love language is Stomachese, I am sure you know you have to fulfill that desire in a special, special way.

LoveSongs(1)

If you decide to dine out, here are a few tips you can use.

  • Search For Deals – I am serious AF. See ehn, if you think eating at Sky Lounge is expensive and you get a 50% off deal, WON’T YOU GO? Okay. Deals will not come and find you o! Find them here.
  • Read Reviews – Blessed be the people of Eat.Drink.Lagos, who have successfully provided us with honest, hilarious feedback on restaurants around town. I mean, if we had listened to them, we would not have gone to a certain place on Admiralty, on a certain Sunday afternoon, for a buffet. YUX. *side-eye Room 114 occupants*

    realizing-you-terrible-for-me-breakup-ecards-someecards
READ REVIEWS OR YOU’LL END UP LIKE THIS!
  • Merge Desires – See ehn, if you are a Seafood lover and your partner pukes at the sight of seafood… Any attempt to take said partner to a Seafood restaurant should end with you wailing your heart out on Social Media because you are a WICKED PERSON. *breathes*. Ensure that wherever you pick offers something that you both can enjoy! Don’t be Lo-ki. tumblr_lt35r0TZ8g1qc4yj7
  • Buy to Share – If you are taking me out to eat, best believe I will order the opposite of your meal so that I can taste your own. If you are a stingykoko, stay away from me. I mean, I am the one who is never hungry but I will eat your food if you bring it. Also, if we buy to share – we can get a good platter, stuff ourselves full and order different desserts.

451ebfd27017c33625cee5df374566ed

meme990c0bb4980e6337

  • Remember, there is work tomorrow – If you give me an awesome day and I find it too difficult to get up on time for work the next day, I might just hate you. Yes, my own can switch up on your own like that. ( -_-) Whatever you do, try and pick a restaurant that may not be too far from your house(s).

tumblr_mtlvfdVgGg1sfwumuo1_500

  • ENJOY – If you are picking your partner up, be on time. If you are the picked, biko – be ready on time. Before you eat, take time to talk and relax. No quarrels, no arguments. Enjoy your time out and KEEP YOUR PHONES AWAY (after you take pictures for the ‘gram, of course).

Tomorrow, we will focus on The Alaroro’s Guide to Dining In… I mean, if you do not find a deal that suits you – you might as well stay in your house and make it grand!

Cheers,

My Favourite Love Songs

Hello Guys,

Welcome to the month of love. (Imagine that I just said that in my sexy OAP voice – #sidegoals. YES. #SideGoals because I have my main goals and being an OAP will just be, you know, a side goal).

I love LOVE. No, really. The expression of it, the highs and lows of totally giving of yourself to others… Love is a beautiful thing (It’s Don Jazzy Again!)

Today, we will be talking about love songs! Thanks Berry Dakara for the berry awesome tip.

LoveSongs

In no particular order, here are my songs for the season! Make sure you share yours with me in the comment section…

    • Michael Buble’s cover of Stevie Wonder’s – You and I.

    • Whitney Houston – Your Love is my love

    • Innocent Tuface Idibia – African Queen. No, I am not joking. I know TuBaba is the patron saint of p**ya***y , but I love this song. Actually makes me feel like a special thang! I am a special woman.

  • Willie Nelson ft. Dolly Parton – From Here to the Moon and Back. This is such a forever song, I love it. The words have so much weight and I plan to use them in my vows someday.

  • The Colour of Love – BoyzIIMen
      • Oooh, I always enjoy this one. I was recently listening to this song and I imagined myself on a cold, cold night in front of a fireplace, holding on to a hairbrush (that I have no hairbrush worthy hair does not count) dancing as my beloved watched on. *giggles* No, I don’t giggle. That is not the point. The point is that I enjoy this song.

  • John Legend – All of Me – This song eh? John Legend just came and floored all of us with this song.

    • Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud

    • OMI – Cheerleader

I love this one too! Especially, the Pentatonix Cover – It makes me feel really giddy! I just want to pull out my pop-poms and cheer the lover’s name to the world! *wink*

    • Enrique Iglesias – Hero

*sniffs* I don’t want to talk about this song.

    • Bruno Mars – Just The Way You Are

    • Beyonce – XO

    • Bryan Adams – (Everything I Do) I Do It For You

    • Hezekiah Walker – I Need You To Survive

I know this is a gospel song and I am sure that it is okay to share this with your loved ones. xoxo.

    • Emeli Sande – Breaking The Law

This is my love jam!

    • Justin Timberlake – Mirror

I know this is a shortlist of the thousands of love songs I love. Will you share with me what your favourite love songs are?

January: To Buy or Not To Buy

January 25, 2016

Sisi Singele

Helllooooo,

How are ya?

It is January spend season – meaning that your thoughts would probably range from it’s Pay-day into bills-day into debt-day into hmmm-I-think-I-have-enough-to-turn-up-with to OMG-How-is-it-just-the-1st-of-the-new-month?!

I AM HAPPY... Really!

For those of us who followed Sisi On A Budget’s recommendations and added one or two things from Money Matters with Nimi and Smart Money with Arese, how is the saving/investing thing going? Baby steps into giant strides!

Here’s a list of things I am interested in getting myself this January.

  • A Mutual Fund – Yes. Let your money work for you in many ways. One of those ways can be a mutual fund. An alternative to your regular savings account with better interest rates – With as little as N5,000, you can start with a First Bank Money Market Fund. If you can part with N50k or more, you can try out other funds offered by Stanbic IBTC, ARM, etc. Look, a monthly commitment to increase your wealth? I am down!

Do I Need This? Yes.

Why? Erm… Alaroro not shopaholic, perhaps. Besides, I already have it. I just need to continue my commitment.

  • A Beauty Subscription – Yes, switched it up real quick. From saving to spending. Yeah. You can check out these two offerings in Lagos from The Beauty Boon and Accessories NG – cost between N5,000 and N6,000.

Do I Need This? Nah, not really. I am not sure. I usually buy this  because it feels like a gift from me to me.The Alaroro Boonbox Review - November

  • LA Girl Pro Conceal HD Orange Concealer – Because, @d3ola and a good number of other Beauty Bloggers have recommended it. My face of many is like a coat of many colours and sometimes, my foundation follows the coat of many colours trend and I knoooow das not right! So, after watching Deola talk about the bentefits of the Orange Concealer… I’m about to take my money and find it. Currently costs N1,100 and N1,000 at the Cosmetics Gallery (Alhaja’s Shop).

Do I Need This? Erm… Yes.

Why? Fix the discoloration on my face… temporarily.LA-Girl-HD-Pro-Conceal-Orange-Corrector-600x458

  • Shoes – Please, if you ever see pictures of me in my current black pumps – Daz not my real face/leg o. I have ruined those shoes. Well, it’s not me, the roads are bad. I am tempted to just walk to any store and pick up a sturdy pair. For the Size 41s and above (like me) check out Gbemisoke Shoes, you can get a good pair for 7k. I think you can splurge a bit on shoes you might wear every other day.

Do I need it? Yes!

Why? Black pumps are the Holy grail of work wear sha. Alma talked about the importance of a good pair of court shoes here. See the picture of my unrealistic dream shoes.

Loubs Black Pumps

  • A new dress – I have this one nation dress from Eve and Tribe that I have worn the life out of. No, seriously. I think I have turned the mustard colour to something else. Still love it, it still looks good. But, I need a new one. In fact, I need a new black one. I am still wondering where to get this from. I won an Experience Zazaii N50,000 voucher from the awesome TWP! So, that will take care of this.

Do I need it? Yes

Why? Because, what is wrong with new dresses?

2015-little-black-dress-307x400
I like this Kamalikulture Dress. Simple and Smart.

***one nation – worn frequently or often. Like, a default item.

Before you buy, make sure you weigh your desires on a scale of want to need. If you can only afford the needs, stick with the needs. In this Adulting life, the way expenses pop up eh? O ga. So, don’t be in a hurry to spend the money. Also, read this Book. It will help, :-)

Save Smart, Spend Wisely.

Cheers,

The Alaroro.

In Her Wardrobe: Alma

January 22, 2016
The Alaroro
7 Comments

Heyyyyy!

Welcome to today! 😀

We are featuring Alma Ezonfade of The Alma Chronicle, a blog specially curated for the every day girl who wants to have fun with her life and her style! So let’s get to it. From this line to the next line, it’s Alma all the way!

Alma - TheAlaroroFeature

Hey everyone!

I was approached by the lovely Vivian (yas guys, I am locely! *huge grin*) to be a part of this series and I’m so excited! Am I the only one that thinks 2016 is going to be a big year for bloggers? I hope not.

My name is Alma and I’m the content creator for thealmachronicle.com. I’m currently a full time student at the University of Ottawa, Canada and a part time style and beauty blogger.

My personal style is centered around minimalist and monochrome pieces. I’m a firm believer of the phrase “dress how you want to be addressed” and this plays a major role in both my buying and styling processes (such an Engineer, lol). Looking like a classy and grown chic/woman on a student budget can get a little tasking so here are some items in my wardrobe I use in achieving this.

NECESSITY(IES)

Basics: It’s easy to get lost in trends so I’m a huge fan of basics/wardrobe staples. Basics include everything from T-shirts (black, white, grey), The LBD, Denim (black & blue), Black blazer, White button down shirt and a pencil skirt.

DSC_0711

 IMG_0121

Push up bra and shapewear: Hello liposuction and augmentation without the extra cash! Undergarments are as important as the clothes on the outside. While some people are blessed with Kim K typa curves, some of us have to fake it till we make it and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Some affordable options can be gotten on Jumia or if you’re willing to go through the hassle, Instagram has a wide range of shape-wear vendors.

Tracksuit bottoms: I know this is not an ideal necessity for most girls but I am probably the laziest girl I know and this comes in handy every other day. Check how I styled a simple tracksuit bottom here

KEY TYPE OF SHOES

Being a student, a good pair of sneakers comes in handy every now and then. I am a huge fan of the Nike Roshe line because it doesn’t get better than comfort and styled mixed together.

IMG_9918

Now on to the heels! Anyone who follows me on twitter (qveenalma_) will know I don’t play with my shoes. Give me a beautiful pair of heels and watch my mood go from street side chic to runway model real quick. Strapped sandals are however the most convenient, versatile and readily available choice.

DSC_0107

IMG_8668

SELECTS (20 of 26)

Lately, I’ve incorporated court shoes into my wardrobe mainly because I needed my sister to shut up about how boring my shoe collection was and I’m glad I did.

DSC_0739

IMG_9066 copy

KEY ACCESSORY

One key accessory I will not be caught without is a handbag. I move around with quite a number of items ranging from wallet, phones, small ball of perfume, moisturizer, etc..and holding all these items with my ten fingers is a tad bit impossible. Ideally, I am that girl or friend that has everything in her purse.

IMG_7823

IMG_7561 (1)

TREND

I never invest in clothing items or style myself according to current trends. I believe in being comfortable rather than “trendy”, If it so happens that a piece of item I love is in line with the current trend, then hurray. I stick to comfortable pieces that can be worn any season/trend which brings me to this, BLACK. If I get a dollar for every black piece of clothing I own right now, I’d be able to afford my dream closet. Black pieces transition seamlessly through seasons and trends while managing to look like it just got off the store rack. Plus can I get an extra Amen for the slimming effect and the fact that black can be paired with anything?!
