So you want to give gifts, but you’re
broke or not that buoyant or rich In Jesus Name!
*sigh* Did anyone imagine that this year would get this bad? Well, when men say there’s a casting down, we will say there’s a lifting up! Right? Right???
Anyway, I believe gift giving is an art and everyone has the opportunity to be an artist. There is nothing more horrible than giving a thoughtless gift. Case in point: Office Secret Santa. Maaaan. What is the worst office Secret Santa gift you have ever seen/received?

Another date night has come and gone, and I am so glad we tried something new. As an Alaroro, you know I am very vicious about how my money is spent and as a shopaholic/spend-a-holic, there are times when I just want to try everything and anything. Are you like me?
For food, I blame Eat Drink Lagos. All deez naiz reviews and when you scroll to the bottom, you see the smiling guy and you know it’s good. Then you see the price point. Your bank account is like “Don’t do it baby girl” and you’re lowkey like:
A few months ago, the EDL team reviewed an Eastern European restaurant and I decided that this would be my treat for date night.
First mess up: I forgot my debit card. Lewl. So, I decided to make a transfer to his account and OTPs refused to deliver. Okay, lover please help me, we will use your card. Him: Okay, I’ll make a transfer to the account I have a card for. Add more LOLs, because no OTPs. Perhaps, we should not be using the same bank e?
Meanwhile, mo ti order starter.
Bruh, I looked at my hands. Is this how I will wash dishes today? Master Lord. I started to panic. By the time, my starter came, I could not really focus on the taste. I kept thinking about washing plates.
Shalla to Wendy-bae for coming through for her girl. I think the lover was just laughing at me for all the mouth I made.
Anyway, ki ni koko oro yii? Have cash. Oh, and guess what? as I got into my Uber back (1k off! Use my code o IREA346UE), I received 10 OTPs at once! Shame!
So, cost details:
Date Night/ Dinner Budget: N10,000
Starter: Meat Hummus – N2,500
Main: Pizza – N5,000
Water: 2 bottles @ N300
Total Spend: N8,100
Alaroro Tips for Dining Out
- Have a budget: How much do you want to spend? Subscribe to Eat Drink Lagos. You can have a view of how much the restaurant charges for certain meals and drinks! This will guide every decision you make and you’ll not be doing addition and subtraction when your date is ordering.
- Have the mind to share: Look for a meal that you and your date can share and enjoy. For me, this was pizza and yeah, it was worth it. It was so delicious. Gaddemit. We had the Four Corners Pizza and with 8 pizza slices, we both had a taste of all the meats 😀
- Mix and Match: Don’t play it safe all through dinner. I decided to try something I had never tried before: Hummus as a starter. I don’t think I’ll do it again, but I’m glad I tried it.
- Drink Water: To make the most out of the meal, cut your drink budget. If you came for the food, spend your money on the food and drink Orijin when you get home -_-. If you came to drink, drink.
So, where are you taking your special person for dinner this month? You know the Mastercard Restaurant Week 2016 ends on the 25th? Click here for more details!
Hellooooo and welcome back to The Alaroro – A blog dedicated to helping you Afford Your Life and Lifestyle as a Nigerian Woman. Today, we’re talking Beauty and Skincare and I’ll be reviewing a product I got recently. Sit tight and enjoy…
I’ve been working for about 5+ years now, and I recently started thinking about all the times I had ever complained about my work, earnings and life in general. Work here refers to your job, business(es), hustle(s) or whatever brings you money.
Get a notebook and a pen and answer the following questions with me:
- How long ago did you start working?
- How much have you earned since you started working? What percentage of that do you have currently? What percentage of that do you have tucked away for the rainy day?
- How much will you earn in your lifetime, God-willing? What percentage of that would you like to have as your net worth i.e, (what you would have in cash if you sell every significant possession, add your akant balances and pay off all of your debts)
- If we do this exercise next year, what would you want your answers to be?
If you start thinking of your earnings like this, what will change about your spending habits right now?
I am not talking to you from a place oversabi or overhave, I recently answered these questions and I caught a spiritual cold. Like, Girl! WTF have you been doing? I’ll tell you what: complaining. “Oh, it’s not enough” or “I have too many commitments” or “Why am I anxious of tomorrow?”…
- You need to be in control of your money.
- It is never too late to start.
I’ll have a more detailed review of these books up soon, but remember to answer those questions and get to work. How? You can read this post about why you need a money plan and how to get started or just start with this tip:
Today, I commit to putting aside 10% of everything I earn, because I know my seasons and I have the good sense and ability to prepare for Winter, so help me God.
Have a blessed night!
Sales, Discounts and multiple streams of income,
Summer-time, Summer-time a.k.a Rainy Season! Even better, there’s a holiday next week! 2 days off – smack in the middle of the week, but who is complaining? Not. Me.
I’m not particularly a trend lover or worshipper, however, you gotta love the SS16 Cold Shoulder a.k.a Off-Shoulder a.k.a Bardot Style trend. It is a funky one that I have always loved. You know, them way-back-when “gypsy tops/blouses”. Hello Esmeralda!
I do say Ankara is the better way to channel some Runway Trends, you know? Especially when your tailor is a righteous tailor. Everyone needs a righteous tailor. Soooo…
Let’s go to the beach in my Off The Shoulder Ankara Crop Top from Kampke.com. I paired it with a black mini skirt and black sneakers. What do you think?
I kukuma cannot find these shades anymore. I wear recommended glasses and so buying shades is really difficult for me. Especially when I think of the cost of switching lenses… Buy N500 shades in traffic and switch lens for almost 2k? Please, no abeg. I’m thinking of going back to contact lenses. Better idea?
Top: Ankara Crop Top from Kampke (Sold Out) (Alaroro Tip: Can you sew? Have 1.5 yards of material lying around? Let your tailor help you out with this one!) | Skirt: Black Lace Mini Skirt from Kampke (Sold Out) | Shoes: Black Sneakers – Roadside Market N1000
Would you wear this to the beach? Share with me in the comments section.
Do you have that one clothing item that you have worn the life out of, but you never want to let go of it? My momma calls such items: One-Nation!
I bought this black dress in 2013 from ASOS and I have worn the life out of it. To work, church, parties, nights out, fell asleep in it… Mo ti l’owo mi pa ninu e.
For the Her Network Chats and Cocktails event, I pulled out this dress and realised that it was begging to be left alone (Lint Nation without a Lint Roller, cri wit mi).
I refused! -_-
Good Morning all forms of royalty all over the world…
Yes, you. You are royalty!
You know we are all about saving more, spending less and earning more here on The Alaroro Blog, abi? Imagine my shock (lol!) when I discovered this shocking device on the interwebs?!
What device is this?
The PAVLOK (Is that like padlock pronunciation for babies? I think they need to fix the name, please.)
What is the PAVLOK? 340 volts of wearable power to shock yourself out of bad habits. Like literally zap yourself out of bad habits. I have so many questions about this? Will one die? What if one dies? What if one is hurt forever?
Anyway, this is not why we are here… A British company has teamed up with Pavlok, to help detect overspending in ya bank account and trigger the device (read: shock you!) when users are spending too much money.
- Will financial institutions really let you link this device to your account? Maybe in the abroad…
- How much is too much money?
- Will it zap you if someone is trying to steal from your account and crosses the spending threshold?! OMG. All these zaps!
- Can you customize these zaps? Like, Zap me if I mistakenly enter Coldstone abeg…
The official website for PAVLOK says: It is designed to stop your brain from desiring and craving any unwanted bad habits such as overeating, procrastination etc, the Pavlok allows you to speak your reptile brain’s language by adding an unpleasant element (a safe and harmless ‘zap’ of electricity on your wrist) to what you have been taught to love (your nasty lingering habit) by conditioning your mind to associate an “unpleasant” feeling with your bad habit… and stopping it all together.
Simply put, pavlovian conditioning on your wrists! Check out their new project called The Shock Clock here
Are you willing to shock yourself to break your spending habit(s)? Especially if this kind goeth not out by prayer alone?
It costs about $250. Do you think it is worth it?
Let me know in the comments section!
Soooo… I currently do not have a Personal Computer/Laptop that I can use at home to write, blog, edit photos or even take photos off my camera. Tiring, eh?
So, why do I need a laptop bag? Faith. I believe I’ll get a laptop this special month of May and I am very excited at the possibility. I went on an online search for the style of bag I’d like (so that I ken go and thrift it later).
Will you help me choose?
These bags cost between N3,000 and N8,000, but you can click each image to see each bag’s price!
Option 3, the most expensive one, looks so sleek and slim and I really like the fact that it is grey and not black.
Which of these bags is your favourite? Share in the comments section.
