Anyway, Konga is doing a massive sale today! 10AM – 2PM. Don’t miss it, guys.
Happy Leap Day!
How’s it going?
Have you ever seen a price tag and asked “do you have it in Malachite?” *insert
brokegirl alaroro tears*.
Today, I will be sharing 5 things with price tags that shocked me o and alaroro recommendations a.k.a affordable dupes!
Another date night has come and gone, and I am so glad we tried something new. As an Alaroro, you know I am very vicious about how my money is spent and as a shopaholic/spend-a-holic, there are times when I just want to try everything and anything. Are you like me?
For food, I blame Eat Drink Lagos. All deez naiz reviews and when you scroll to the bottom, you see the smiling guy and you know it’s good. Then you see the price point. Your bank account is like “Don’t do it baby girl” and you’re lowkey like:
A few months ago, the EDL team reviewed an Eastern European restaurant and I decided that this would be my treat for date night.
First mess up: I forgot my debit card. Lewl. So, I decided to make a transfer to his account and OTPs refused to deliver. Okay, lover please help me, we will use your card. Him: Okay, I’ll make a transfer to the account I have a card for. Add more LOLs, because no OTPs. Perhaps, we should not be using the same bank e?
Meanwhile, mo ti order starter.
Bruh, I looked at my hands. Is this how I will wash dishes today? Master Lord. I started to panic. By the time, my starter came, I could not really focus on the taste. I kept thinking about washing plates.
Shalla to Wendy-bae for coming through for her girl. I think the lover was just laughing at me for all the mouth I made.
Anyway, ki ni koko oro yii? Have cash. Oh, and guess what? as I got into my Uber back (1k off! Use my code o IREA346UE), I received 10 OTPs at once! Shame!
So, cost details:
Date Night/ Dinner Budget: N10,000
Starter: Meat Hummus – N2,500
Main: Pizza – N5,000
Water: 2 bottles @ N300
Total Spend: N8,100

To go places. See things.
Have you ever had one of those days? It was a Saturday and I was at work… stressed out of my mind and waiting for my lover to swing by and take me away in proper Tarzan and Jane fashion!
He, who is not even remotely spontaneous, decided to take me to Lagos Island. Now, I really really love Lagos Island. I feel like I am in a different century when I stand on some streets there. I hope they never tear down some buildings in the name of urbanization sha. We ended up here at Freedom Park!
Episode 1: Freedom Park, Lagos
Freedom Park Lagos was born out of the ruins of Her Majesty’s Broad Street Prisons, was reconstructed to preserve the history and cultural heritage of the Nigerian People
Entry was N200 per head since nothing was really happening. So, it was a quiet lunch in a very beautiful and simple place. I am just going to share the pictures I took and I hope you are inspired to visit this place of deep history.
Isn’t that beautiful?
What to Do at Freedom Park
I did 3 out of 4 of the above. I didn’t visit the gallery, because that was not what I came for. I really needed to clear my head and just inhale clean air. We found free chairs and we set them beside the Eyo statue.
There are statues created by a number of Nigerians representing various roles and jobs in our society:
We shared what we would like to call a platter, lol. Half Chicken + a portion of fries and 1 Origin, for me & a portion of grilled Yam and 1 bottle of water, for him = N3,300. We could do this, because we were not that hungry. If I was hungry, we would have gone to eat Amala somewhere outside and walked back to Freedom Park. tsk tsk. As a certified alaroro, I kept thinking of how many kilos of chicken I could buy for that amount.
I had a great time at Freedom Park! I recommend that you visit with someone you can enjoy the quiet with without feeling awkward.
à plus tard,
I’ve been working for about 5+ years now, and I recently started thinking about all the times I had ever complained about my work, earnings and life in general. Work here refers to your job, business(es), hustle(s) or whatever brings you money.
Get a notebook and a pen and answer the following questions with me:
If you start thinking of your earnings like this, what will change about your spending habits right now?
I am not talking to you from a place oversabi or overhave, I recently answered these questions and I caught a spiritual cold. Like, Girl! WTF have you been doing? I’ll tell you what: complaining. “Oh, it’s not enough” or “I have too many commitments” or “Why am I anxious of tomorrow?”…
I’ll have a more detailed review of these books up soon, but remember to answer those questions and get to work. How? You can read this post about why you need a money plan and how to get started or just start with this tip:
Today, I commit to putting aside 10% of everything I earn, because I know my seasons and I have the good sense and ability to prepare for Winter, so help me God.
Have a blessed night!
Sales, Discounts and multiple streams of income,
Happy Leap Day to you! Happy Leo Day toooooooo! Leonardo DiCaprion won an Oscar! Amaaaaaaazing!
I had been having issues accessing my blog, so I posted our What are We Buying this month on Medium.
Anyway, we are back to WordPress and here is the post:-
Seeing as the Naira to Foreign Currency rate is on a yoyo spree, #BuyNigeriaToGrowTheNaira might just be here to stay…
The question for the gods is: Is it really #BuyNigeria if it was not #MadeInNigeria? As in, if I am a Nigerian designer and I buy all my ingredients abroad and cook up something here, is that what makes me #MadeInNigeria?
I kukuma do not have an answer to that… yet.
However, here are a few things I had my eye on this month… a.k.a $25 or $15 — Depending on who is selling to you.
o Price — N3,000
o Where? — Coveralls and Lipsticks Blog Sale
o Price — N3,250 — N4,500
o Where? — Konga — Just click any of the images to check them out.
Anyway, Konga is doing a massive sale today! 10AM – 2PM. Don’t miss it, guys.
Happy Leap Day!
It is still the month of love.
We are getting closer to V-Day and the pressure seems to be mounting. If you are like me, then you are probably searching for the most affordable way to give your SO an amazing Valentine! If you missed Valerie’s post on gifting according to Love Languages, you should check it out here!
If your lover’s love language is Stomachese, I am sure you know you have to fulfill that desire in a special, special way.
If you decide to dine out, here are a few tips you can use.
Tomorrow, we will focus on The Alaroro’s Guide to Dining In… I mean, if you do not find a deal that suits you – you might as well stay in your house and make it grand!
As you know, I’ve been building my makeup collection 1 Boonbox at a time. What’s a boonbox? Check here.
The last boonbox I ordered was in November, but I got in December. Ya. Partly, When I opened it… It was worth the wait! Let’s unbox this baby together!
Hmmm… What is all this?
Seven lovely items in my BoonBox for 5k just saved me a few buys that might have run into tens of thousands!
To get on the boonbox train, click here. A N5,000 monthly beauty subscriptions offering a variety of products? The Alaroro Shopaholic is forever loyal to this and she recommends this!
That’s all, folks!
New Website, Who This?
It is payday soon (sorrrrraaaay if yours has passed…), and these days it has been harder for me to buy stuff for myself without feeling guilty. If you’re like me, here’s a quick solution for you. Keep reading…
Going into a new phase of my life soon, and I decided to celebrate this by doing
a tour of Europe on the back of a sexy young man called Mine in our fancy private jetpacks with the Teenage Mutant Naija Turtles, of which King Saul’s Successor+O is one of, as our bodyguards.
Err, no. I decided to do Wardrobe Inventory. SO MUCH FUN, right? RIGHT?
I don’t have enough clothes. No, really. I don’t. Ask me how many clothing items I have and I cannot give you an answer. So, how do I know that I don’t have enough clothes?
*insert Omawunmi’s pretty face here*
So, I journeyed across the state to my multiple residential locations(blame Lagos traffic), just to count clothes.
Armed with my Red Notebook and a borrowed pen, I started to write (I prepared a spreadsheet for later, though)
The key categories included tops (blouses, blazers and jackets, shirts, tees, tanks), skirts, pants and dresses. These are the 4 cardinal points of my wardrobe.
The category details included Colour, Style(Pencil, Vintage), Print/Pattern or Plain, Basic or Accessory, Smart, Casual or Dual Purpose and the best part: Amend/Adjust, Giveaway or Keep.
Do this regularly. It guides your spending habits and puts your whole life in order.
In the process of taking inventory, I learned a few things.
1. Hang your clothes. Lesson Learned. Hanging helps. It is easier to remember what you have when your clothes are hung. Folded clothes are easy to forget. :'(
2. Buy as many basics or staples as you can afford. You need a black pencil skirt much more than you need that Sky Blue Bodycon Zip hip-serving Skirt. The Grey pumps are more important than the yellow ones right now.
These basics give you room to create as many looks and styles as possible. Why? They go with everything. I’m not asking you to go all Shirley-esque with that sexy minimalist style, especially if that’s not your style. Just make sure you know how to do 1+1 before you enter Almighty Formula.
I feel free (Read: I am really hurting on the inside because I cannot justify anything on my lust list, anymore)
This Alaroro Shopaholic life ehn…
Half Hugs, Air Kisses and Discounts,
As my name implies, I am a sucker for bargains, discounts, awesome steals and most importantly… free stuff.
When it comes to giveaways, I am almost always first in line for the reposts, RTs, Comments…
The good thing is, it is not always about clothes, shoes, makeup or fashion in general.
I like other things too…
Today’s focus will be on my favourite apps/websites for learning and self-improvement. No, I’m not really a bookworm. Really. Okay, maybe a little. Okay, okay. I love to read and learn new things and I am probably one of those who took down notes during excursions *insert appropriate tweet*
I cannot even begin to explain how awesome this virtual learning world is. It feels like having all the universities in the world at your fingertips. Omg. I can’t be judged for wanting to study The Analytics of Human Engineering while dabbling in Design Thinking and jumping into classes on Negotiation. There is no one to call me an “alaini nkan se”
I can be an art student, a science student, a commercial student and not be judged.
The way Coursera works is simple, sign up for a class (Depending on the structure of the class, it could be at your own pace or a time-bound class), take the video classes, answer your quizzes, do your coursework and you’re entitled to a Statement of Accomplishment upon the successful completion of the coursework.
Or, you can register for Specializations (this one requires money o… So, I have budgeted for my specialisation for the month of April – Reason being that the courses are actually important to my career path).
So, sign up for a Coursera course today at www.coursera.org and download the app on your device!
Big ups to MallamSawyerr for showing me the light.
btw, Sir calls it “kos-rah” and I call it “koh-seh-rah”
I’m right. I know I’m right. Right?
Tu parles Français? Do you want to parle Français? Or, Italian? Or, German?
Ich habe a solution for you.
Duolingo is a language learning website with apps for iOS and Android users. Duolingo is easy to use. It takes a question based form, so there are no actual classes. It just asks questions. Now, the words are underlined and you can tap and view the meanings before answering a question.
A huge plus for me are the random pronunciation tests. Make sure you are in a quiet area when you take a pronunciation test or the kpokom sound of failure will be too loud.
So, get on Duolingo (www.duolingo.com) and expand your horizon today.
Not every time, Voulez-vous coucher avec moi… Learn something new.
